Part 22
End of the road
And so, the end is near...
We did well, this year. I had us down for a 0-10 or maybe 1-9 season (much like the rest of the league). We got to the semi-finals which is good for a team that doesn't train and just plays for fun.
The team was much improved this year with the emergence of two great veterans in Beechy and Ian Mason who made a big difference in the games that they played.
A big shout must also go out to 'Dave' who broke his leg pretty bad in the quarter finals. We missed his presence in the semi but most of all we missed his big cheesy smile every time somebody called him Dave. - Good on you Dave, see you next year!
Precious reckons He's retiring now, but I know different. I suggest that everybody send him an e-mail, every week telling him to play next year his e-mail address is : magnumpaulcox@blueyonder.co.uk
You just can't have the teams' best offensive lineman retire when there is so much left to do.
Dobbo should have played all season. Next year he should play right guard with Tony Foy at right tackle. I suggest a similar e-mail campaign on this issue, his e-mail address is : william@dobson1301.freeserve.co.uk
We eventually lost 47 or so to 3, however - I reckon Treth was over the line and we would have kicked the PAT so in my pretty pink world we were only beaten 47 - 10 which changes its rating from 'knobbing' to simply a 'mauling' and no-one will convince me otherwise.
I personally played a blinder. My bloke was benched and his replacement did about as good. It might even have been my best ever game. Not bad considering I'm half the man I used to be! At the start of the season I was 16 stone and 8 pounds. Now I'm just 14 stone and 2 pounds, at this rate, at the start of next season I'll be lighter that Pat...but never as old.
That's it.
It started off funny and trailed off at the end, but then, so did the season.
See you all next year
